It always takes a little while for everyone to get going at the start of a new funding period, but things are on the move at Poetry on Loan. The posters advertising this year's poetry competition are in the design stage, and will soon go up in libraries all over the West Midlands. The competition details and rules are already up on this website though, so why not have a look?
We've begun the process of creating our new poetry postcards, too. They aren't just thrown together! We invite more than 20 poets to write a poem according to some quite strict guidelines. When all the poems have been submitted, they are read by a panel of highly experienced library staff. After a fight for favourites, we will settle on the ones to be made into postcards - between 6 or 8.
Request for events are beginning to come in already. Jo Bell will be reading in Wolverhampton in September, and Adam Horovitz, the Poet in Residence for Herefordshire, will be running a free workshop in the new Ledbury library in June. That's just for starters...
I've been reading a pamphlet by Keith Chandler from Shropshire, a poet I have only just come across, and I'm looking forward to the new collections from Jonathan Davidson and Jo Bell. What are you reading?
