Poetry Happening Near You

Where does the time go?

Time to get the engine going...

I've heard it over and over again during the last few months - where does the time go?

Well, here we are on the brink of revving everything up again. Libraries are reopening, very carefully, and in most of the local authorities you can get books out. Why not find a poetry book that suits your mood?

Poetry on Loan has been celebrating this new phase with our series of poems and videos on the theme of New beginnings. These are really wide-ranging in style and subject matter, and they're all short - the intention was that they would be instead of our usual poetry postcards this year, so they're postcard-poem length. Have look at them! If you look at Read full poem on the website front page, you can find links to all of them. We still have a few up our sleeves...

And of course it's time for our annual competition. Entries have already opened, so start writing now. The theme this year is Choice (which is the National Poetry Day theme too), but as always we encourage people to interpret this theme widely. The competition is free to enter for anyone living, working or studying in the West Midlands.

Other events are conitnuing - online workshops, poetry on demand - and an excellent performance for Warwickshire Libraries by Imtiaz Dharker, supported by Warwickshire's Young Poet Laureate, Ruby Murphy.

Look out for a really big event in the autumn...
