Poetry Happening Near You

Big event time

Roger and the future

At last, we can give you details of the long-awaited visit by Roger McGough to The Hive in Worcester. He'll be there on October 6th, and so will I - so also will be Jonny Fluffypunk as support act. This is an event not to be missed, and one of the highlights of my time as Poetry on Loan Co-ordinator. You can see how to book under Events or the News item.

But of course, that's not all that's been happening. Libraries are opening up everywhere like spring flowers! We've had a great event with Imtiaz Dharkar, and workshops, and several Young Poet Laureate competitions. And our very own poetry competition. Entries are closed now, and the judges are selecting their favourites to go through to the shortlist. We'll announce the winner on National Poetry Day, October 7th.

We've got some poetry walks coming up, and a Poetry on Demand event in Solihull... keep your eyes open for an event near you.

And, perhaps more importantly than all of this, we have put in an application to Arts Council England for funding so that Poetry on Loan can continue. Our current funding period finishes at the end of this year, and who knows what will happen after that? Acquiring funding from ACE is very competitive, but we've done our best, and all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and wait...
