Poetry Happening Near You

A good October

It's all been happening...

October is always busy in the poetry world, and this is true for Poetry on Loan. Paul Henry took on his first two commitments as Poet in Residence for Herefordshire; Young Poet Laureates were selected in both Shropshire and Stoke and Staffs; Jonny Fluffypunk and Fergus McGonigal provided poetry on demand in Shropshire; the Funny Women did their stuff…. And, of course, the website is up and running, and 30,000 poetry postcards have been sent to public libraries all over the West Midlands.

And we had a meeting. Once every three months, the Poetry on Loan representatives come together to get an update on progress and to share their news. It’s always invigorating to be in a room with people who have so much enthusiasm for poetry, despite library budget cuts that make everything difficult. We all go away inspired to try something new and spread our love of poetry to a wider audience.

Now we can all have a brief rest before planning for Christmas events, and the New Year…
