Poetry on Loan is in full swing again!
We have had quite a few entries for the competition, but we could do with some more - get your entries in before the closing date (September 7th). The adult prize is a paid performance on 10th October, as part of PoL's postcard poets event in the Birmingham Literature Festival. You can find all the details by clicking on the POETRY COMPETITION tab. And you could attend the What makes a winning poem? workshop at City Central Library, Stoke, on 8th August, if you think you could do with some help.
We've chosen our 8 postcard poems now; it was a really difficult choice from the 30 excellent commissioned poems. Our designer Greg is busy coming up with some beautiful images to go with each poem, and they will be launched at the Birmingham event in October.
Our poets are getting ready for lots of workshops - with knitting groups in Stoke; with older people in Walsall, Stoke and Dudley; with reminiscence groups in Birmingham and Staffordshire. We've already had a session with a Ramblers Group in Walsall, although, strangely, this was held on a narrowboat!
We've got some great live performances coming up, too. The Funny Men will be in Long Lane library in Dudley in September, and we've got Ash Dickenson in Stoke and Walsall, in October. Walsall will also be welcoming Hilda Sheehan, and Jo Bell will be appearing in Wolverhampton in September.
Talking of Jo Bell, I've recently read her latest collection, Kith. It's a great read, with thought-provoking, short and telling poems. Definitely recommended!
There's loads more coming up, but that can wait until next month...
