The West Midlands will be seeing some big poetry names and spectacular events over the next few months...
Poetry on Loan is extraordinarily well served by poets who are famous only in a given circle. But every now and then, we like to bring some better-known poets into the region. Also, we like to have shows sometimes, as a variation from poetry readings or performances.
And for the next few months, we have arranged some very special events for our library audiences.
First, Warwickshire. On 22nd March, Rugby library will have the first live performance of Paradise rocks! Imagine a musical show based (loosely) on Milton's Paradise lost, set in Hawaii with songs that could have been performed by Elvis... It's been created by The Indelicates, whose Book of Job - the musical has been presented all over the country to wild acclaim. This is something you really shouldn't miss.
May is busy! On 17th, Henry Normal will be appearing at The Hive, in Worcester. Henry Normal is a poet, comedian and TV producer, with a fine list of credits to his name.
Back to the spectacular on 18th May, when Poets, prattlers and pandemonialists comes to Stoke. Three West Midlands poets combine to provide more than the sum of their parts.
Finally, on June 8th, we are delighted to welcome Sir Andrew Motion to Ludlow Assembly Rooms, in a co-production with Shropshire Libraries.
