Could you be the first Stoke-on-Trent Poet Laureate?

 Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Stoke-on-Trent Libraries are looking to appoint the first Stoke-on-Trent Poet Laureate. This honorary post is for an initial two-year tenure, and provides an exciting opportunity for a local poet to raise the profile of poetry in Stoke-on-Trent.

As Stoke-on-Trent Poet Laureate you will share a passion for poetry. This may include writing poems to commission, reading or performing your poetry, initiating poetry events, and working with local poetry and community groups.
The post is open to poets aged 18 and over who live, work regularly or study in Stoke-on-Trent. 
How to apply

To apply, please submit the following:

  • Three original poems of 30 lines or less. One poem must be about Stoke-on-Trent
  • A statement of up to 500 words stating why you would like to be Stoke-on-Trent Poet Laureate, what you would bring to the role, and ideas for what you might do during your tenure
  • A writing CV (max. one page) detailing relevant experience


Entry closes at midnight on 31 January 2018

Selection day will take place on Saturday 24 March 2018 - candidates should be available for this date.
